International Jewellery London, the industry’s largest trade show in the UK has now ended at Earls Court, Kensington.  Entry to the show was free of charge if pre-registered saving £25 on the door.

As in previous years, this vast show provided a representation of all aspects of the jewellery industry from gem suppliers to tool makers and, of course, the best of progressive British design!

We visited the show on the Sunday and spent the day chatting to designers, attending seminars and discovering what’s new this year.  Everyone seemed confident that this year’s show is busier than in previous years’ and the feeling was definitely up-beat.  The exhibition organisers, as always, went that extra mile to make the show special, with features such as the competition displays, runway and the brand new product wall.

One of the most outstanding features of the show is the seminar programme. Each day of IJL is packed with talks from industry experts on a variety of aspects of the jewellery trade, from gemstones to blogging and everything in between! Each one of us can find at least a handful of seminars that would be really valuable and we would suggest arranging to visit at a time to coincide with you most favourable seminars, should you be like us in only being able to attend on one day. The really attractive thing about the seminar programme is that it is all completely free!

Back to the jewellers; there was an outstanding cross section of styles and genres on display with a good representation from creative, artisan makers. Many jewellers this year were showing smaller, more delicate pieces with unique components and mixed metal colours for more impact. Juxtaposed against this were the hugely oversized pieces, many fabricated from mixed materials and inspired by various styles in one piece. What follows is a tantalising snapshot of the jewellery that you can expect to see at IJL now and worn in the coming year by the jewellery conscious public.
