Sir Anthony Caro is one of the world’s most renowned living sculptors. After working as an assistant to Henry Moore in the 1950s he has produced a body of work spanning over fifty years and his influence as a creator and teacher of three dimensional art has been felt worldwide.

Most recently though, he has moved from working on his 10 to 20 foot sculptures, to something very much smaller.

After a collaboration with the exclusive jeweller Grassy, Anthony Caro has begun to produce jewellery pieces in silver and gold, a selection of which are on show to the public in the New Art Centre until January 30th, 2011.

Caro is not a modeller of jewellery but rather a sculptor of pieces in gold" (Kosme de Baranano, 2008).

Each item of jewellery is unique and reflects many of Caro’s sculptural concerns. Like his sculptures, Caro’s jewellery combines functional or industrial elements to create intricate structures that are at once complex, architectural and mechanical. The intimacy of modelling such small-scale work with his fingertips, also served as a counterpoint to his large and monumental constructions.
